Wilkes-Barre Area School District Auxiliary Field Design Build

Keystone Sports Construction recently completed a design-build project at the auxiliary fields of the Wilkes-Barre Area High School athletic stadium complex. The project is located in the public school district situated in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, which hosts a student body ranging from Pre-K through 12th grade. This marks the second successful project between Keystone Sports Construction and the Wilkes-Barre Area School District.

The project involved several phases, starting with the installation of a drainage system for storm management. Next a newly constructed stone sub-base was laser-graded before the installation of synthetic turf. Keystone installed Astroturf’s premium synthetic turf system, Astroturf Rootzone 3D3 Blend, ensuring a high-quality playing surface.

Furthermore, KSC installed newly paved walkways and access roadways around the complex, connecting the newly laid turf fields with the bleachers, field houses, and stadium field from the first phase of the athletic complex build. The auxiliary field was then enclosed with new perimeter fencing.

Notable enhancements featured in the project included brand-new dugouts, a batting tunnel, two new electronic scoreboards, and the installation of Musco lighting around the playing fields, providing lighting for night games. Design elements included black and light blue colored perimeter turf with green playing surface, and sport lines for softball, soccer, field hockey, and men’s and women’s lacrosse.
