Har-Tru tennis courts have many benefits for both casual and competitive players. Made from crushed green stone, they provide a softer surface than traditional hard courts, reducing joint strain and fatigue during long matches. This makes them a great choice for those who want a more comfortable playing experience. Har-Tru courts also drain well, drying quickly after rain and maintaining consistent playing conditions. This helps extend the season and reduce downtime.
Keystone Sports Construction will take care of every detail when you choose them to build your Har-Tru court. We initiate site preparations and debris removal, grading the site for proper drainage. Then builds a solid base with gravel, stone dust, or crushed stone and finishes with spread and compact of the Har-Tru surface. When you hire Keystone Sports Construction to construct a Har-Tru court, the process involves several key steps. First, the site is cleared of vegetation and debris, and proper grading is ensured to facilitate effective drainage. Following this preparation, a stable base layer is installed using materials such as gravel, stone dust, or crushed stone. This base provides a solid foundation for the court surface.
Next, we spread the Har-Tru surface, composed of crushed green stone, evenly across the court area. It is then meticulously leveled and compacted using heavy rollers to achieve the desired density and smoothness. Regular watering of the surface is essential to maintain the proper moisture content, which helps control ball speed and bounce consistency during play.

Once the surface is prepared, we shift our attention to marking the court with lines for singles and doubles play, ensuring they adhere to regulatory standards. Additionally, the net is installed at the appropriate height and tension to complete the court's features.
Maintenance of a Har-Tru court is ongoing and critical for its longevity and optimal playing conditions. Daily maintenance includes brushing the surface to redistribute loose material and maintain its evenness. Regular watering keeps the surface compact and prevents dust, enhancing playability. Lines are periodically remarked to ensure visibility and compliance with playing standards. Prompt repair of any damage, such as divots or erosion, is necessary to preserve the integrity of the playing surface. Seasonal care involves specific adjustments like aerating in the fall and protecting the court during winter to mitigate weather-related damage. Keystone Sports Construction offers different options to help you make sure your courts are kept properly, maintained, and cared for.

Har-Tru is made from a finely crushed natural green stone found in the Blue Mountains of Virginia, where it is crushed, screened, and mixed to create a stable playing surface. The Har-Tru company is based near the quarry where this unique material is sourced.
Har-Tru courts should be resurfaced once per year in the spring after the last frost. This annual maintenance helps preserve the court’s stability and playability.
Har-Tru reconditioning includes removing dead material from the previous season, supplying and installing about 2 tons of new Har-Tru material per court, leveling and brushing the surface, watering and rolling the court, installing new herringbone line tape, and a final roll to set the lines and ensure a smooth finish.
