The Client

George A. Smith Middle School is a public school in the Solanco School District that is named in honor of George A. Smith, an influential local educator who became the supervising principal of Quarryville High School in 1929.

The Challenge

After years of deterioration from constant use and wear, the school’s hardwood gymnasium flooring and subfloor required a complete replacement to restore a safe, durable, and high-performance athletic playing surface.

Construction Process

The project was initiated with the removal of the existing hardwood gym flooring. Afterward, repairs were made to the concrete subbase. A top-of-the-line subfloor and maple wood flooring were then installed. The floor was then sanded down, sealed, painted, and coated with two coats of MFMA-certified polyurethane. Additionally, new vented cove bases, doorway thresholds, and volleyball plates were provided.
